Photosynthesis | process of taking inorganic substances (H2O & CO2)in the presence of light and forming organic molecule (glucose – C6H12O6) and oxygen |
Cellular respiration | process of breaking the bonds of glucose to release energy for the cell in the form of ATP |
Mitochondria | cell organelle where cellular respiration occurs |
Choloroplasts | cell organelle where photosynthesis occurs |
Chlorophyll | green pigment that gives color to leaves |
ATP | adenosine triphosphate; form of energy produced by cellular respiration |
ADP | product left when a bond in ATP is broken to release energy |
Reactants | substances that go into the reaction |
Products | substances that are produced by the reaction |
Inorganic substances | substances that contain C or H but not both; acids, bases, salts, water |
Organic substances | substances that contain C-H bonds; carbs, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids |
