Term | Definition |
Short-term environmental change | occurs quickly and affects organism immediately. |
Long-term environmental change | occurs slowly over time and affects organisms over generations. |
Traits | a distinct variant of a phenotypic characteristic of an organism that may be inherited, be environmentally determined or be a combination of the two. |
Subsequent populations | the rate of how a population has been growing and how it has reached its peak in a certain amount of years. This can also be related to the census taking that occurs each year or so. |
Organism | any contiguous living system, such as an animal, plant or bacterium. |
Camouflage | hide or disguise the presence of (a person, animal, or object) |
Adaptation | is a trait with a current functional role in the life of an organism that is maintained and evolved by means of natural selection. |
Population | all the organisms of the same group or species, which live in a particular geographical area, and have the capability of interbreeding. |
Mutation | a permanent alteration of the nucleotide sequence of the genome of an organism, virus, or extrachromosomal DNA or other genetic elements |
Tolerance | the capacity of an organism to endure the effects of a poison or other substance, esp after it has been taken over a prolonged period |
Biodiversity | the number of different species of plants and animals in an area. |
