| Orbit | the path one object makes as it revolves around another |
| axis | imaginary line between the North and South Poles |
| revolution | elliptical journey around the sun |
| solstice | the point in the calendar year of the longest or shortest day |
| equinox | the point in the calendar year when the length of the day is the same everywhere on Earth |
| rotation | one complete turn on an axis |
| time zone | areas on the Earth that share the same time |
| core | sphere of very hot metal at the center of the Earth |
| mantle | thick, rocky layer the surrounds the core |
| crust | thin layer of rocks and minerals that surrounds the mantle |
| atmosphere | thick layer of gas and air above the surface of the Earth |
| landforms | types of land such as mountains, plateaus, and valleys |
| weathering | process that breaks rock into tiny pieces |
| erosion | process by which water, ice, and/or wind move small pieces of rock |
| deposition | process of eroded material settling |
| plains | large flat areas or gently rolling hills |
| plateau | mostly flat land that rises above surrounding land |
| valley | stretches of low land between mountains or hills |
| delta | flat plains that form when a river fans out and deposits material |
| plate tectonics | theory that states large land plates inside the Earth move |
| plates | large blocks of rock and soil that make up the Earth's crust |
| magma | molten or semi-molten rock stored in the Earth's crust |
| lava | magma that reaches the surface of the Earth |
| faults | seams or cracks in the Earth's crust |
| Earth | the sphere you live on |
