molecule | a combination of atoms. |
chemical bond | An attraction between two atoms which makes chemical substances. |
chemical formula | The chemical formula can be used to help describe the chemical compounds of atoms. |
compound | a molecule made of atoms from different elements. |
element | Any substance that cannot be fundamentally broken down anymore. |
chemical reaction | a process that involves the rearranging of the molecular or ionic structure. |
reactant | a substance that takes part in a chemical reaction. |
product | substances that remain from a chemical reaction that occurs. |
cross-link | a bond that links one polymer chain to another. |
monomer | a molecule that may bind chemically to other molecules to form a polymer. |
polymer | a large molecule, or macromolecule, composed of many repeated molecules. |
open system | can exchange energy heat and matter. |
closed system | can exchange energy but is not capable of exchanging matter. |
Law of Conservation of Mass | an isolated system is neither created nor destroyed by chemical reactions or physical transformations. |
