Question | Answer |
What are the six characteristics of all living things? | 1) Made of cells 2) Requires energy 3) Grows and develops 4) Respond to the environment 5) Reproduce 6) Have adaptations for their environment |
How do animals and plants get their energy? | For animals, energy comes in the form of food. For plants energy comes in the form of light which is converted into sugar [food] and oxygen. |
What is the process of cellular respiration? | Cellular respiration is the process where organisms break down food in the presence of oxygen to produce water, carbon dioxide, and energy. |
What is the first basic idea of cell theory? [I can't fit all three in one, it will not let me] | 1) The cell is the basic unit of life. In other words, the cell is the smallest living organism that shows the characteristics of living things. |
What is the second basic idea of cell theory? [I can't fit all three in one, it will not let me] | 2) An organism can be as simple as one cell [unicellular] like a paramecium, or it can be made up of trillions of cells [multicellular], like an elephant. |
What is the third basic idea of cell theory? [I can't fit all three in one, it will not let me] | 3) All cells are created from existing cells through a process called cell division by which a cell divides into two new cells. |
What are three ways unicellular organisms move? | 1) Using cilia as “oars” to propel the organism(e.g. paramecium) 2) Using a flagellum to move by rotating or lashing (e.g. eugela, E. coli) 3) Changing its shape and forcing cytoplasm through extensions called pseudopods (e.g. amoeba) |
