Term | Definition |
Body Tube | Reflects light up to the viewer's eye |
Revolving Nosepiece | Holds the objectives, can be easily rotated to different powers |
Low Power Objective | The first lens that you use when using a microscope Usually 4x |
Medium Power Objective | The second lens that you use when using a microscope Usually 10x |
High Power Objective | The third lens that you use when using a microscope, it is the highest magnification Usually 40x |
Stage Clips | Clips on the stage, used to hold the slide in place |
Diaphragm | Used to vary the amount of light passing through the slide, usually it's better if the amount light is low |
Light Source | The light that helps you see the slide better |
Eye Piece | The lens at the top of the microscope that you look into By itself it magnifies the slide 10x |
Arm | The part of the microscope that connects the tube to the base, when you carry a microscope you hold the arm & base |
Stage | The flat plate where the prepared slides are placed for observations |
Coarse Adjustment | Largest focus knob, only use when on small objective [power] |
Fine Adjustment | Used when on the highest objective [power] for fine tuning |
Base | The bottom support of the microscope, when you carry a microscope you hols the base & arm |
