Term | Definition |
Biotic | the living things inside a biome |
Abiotic | the nonliving things inside a biome |
Autotroph/Producer | an organism that gets its energy from sunlight and provides energy for first level consumers |
Heterotroph/Consumer | an organism that feeds off producers or other consumers |
Decomposer | organism that breaks down dead plants or animals and gives the nutrients back to the soil |
Herbivore | a consumer that feeds on just plants |
Carnivore | a consumer that feeds on just meat |
Omnivore | a consumer that feeds on both meat and plants |
Scavenger | a consumer that feeds on meat that it finds dead |
Food Chain | a chain that shows each level of consumers but it starts with producers |
Food Web | a web with multiple food chains put into one complex web |
Sun's Role | the sun's role is to provide food and energy to producers which is given to herbivore then carnivore or omnivore |
Chain/Web | chain: a simple order of which organisms feed on each other web: a complex order with multiple chains |
Energy Pyramid | a pyramid made to show different levels of energy in the different in the different sections with the lowest at the top and highest at the bottom |
Symbiosis | were two organisms are together were they are both helped or one is harmed or one is neither helped nor harmed |
Mutualism | were two organisms are together and are both benefiting on the relationship :) :) |
Commensalism | were one organism benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed :) :/ |
Parasitism | were one organism benefits and the other is harmed :) :( |
Predator/prey | predator: feeds on prey in order to get energy prey: tries to escape from predator in order to live |
Competitoin | where two organisms feed on the same thing and live in the same habitat |
Adaption | something an organism needs in order to survive in its habitat or biome |
