Question | Answer |
Cells | The building blocks of Life. Cells provide structure and function in all living organisms including plants and animals. |
Microscopic | Too small to be seen with the human eye. Cells are microscopic. |
Unicellular | Organisms with one cell |
Multicellular | Organisms that have cells tha come in a variety of sizes and shapes. |
Hierarchy of Organization | Cell Hierarchy comes in this order: Cells, Tissues, Organs, Organ Systems |
Energy | Living organisms produce and use energy |
Photosynthesis | Plants capture energy from the sun to make food or glucose |
Stimulus | Anything that makes us react: food, sound, smell, sight, heat, cold |
Reaction | How we react to to a stimulus: moving towards, away from, salivating |
Growth | Growth occurs when cells divide |
Development | The changes and organism goes through: Ex: child, teen, adult |
Reproduce | The production of offspring |
Asexual Reproduction | Only uses one cell, does not need an egg or sperm. Offspring look like parent. |
Sexual Reproduction | Two cells used to reproduce. Requires and egg and sperm, Helps species survive and gives variety to offspring |
Adaptation | Structures, chemicals and behaviors that help survival |
Evolution | The gradual change in species over time |
Species | A group of organisms that interbreed (mate) and produce fertile offspring |
Heredity | Passing traits from parents to offspring |
Genetics | The science of the study of heredity |
DNA | The information molecule in cells that carry the heredity information |
Producers | Make food like glucose. Ex: Algae, cyanobacteria, plants |
Consumers | Must use food from producers because they can't make food. Ex: Animals and protozoa |
