Term | Definition |
controlled variable | the other variables in an experiment that are kept the same to be sure that you are only testing one thing |
empirical evidence | evidence from scientists' observations or their data from their experiments and measurements that help them test, support and evaluate whether things are accurate. |
hypothesis | an idea that can be tested through an experiment in science to see if it hold true |
Law (scientific law) | a statement of something that always happens in science that has been tested to hold true |
model (scientific model) | a replica (either physically or mentally) of the real thing |
outcome variable (dependent variable) | the change that happens in an experiment by using the independent variable |
repetition | doing the same experiment more than once |
replication | when another scientist repeats the same experiment someone else did to see if it's reliable |
test variable (independent variable) | the variable that you change in order to test something |
theory (scientific theory) | an explanation of why something occurs or how it occurs in science that has been tested and holds true |
control group | the group you compare your results with that you do not change |
experiment | a controlled test designed to see if your hypothesis is correct |
variable | anything in an experiment that you can change or control |
observations | gathering information using your senses |
