Term | Definition |
Density (population) | Groups of individuals belonging to the same species that live in the same region at the same time. |
Distribution | The geographical area within which that species can be found. Within that range, dispersion is variation in local density. |
Age structure | The distribution of ages of individuals of a population. |
Immigration | Individual/organism permanently moves from one area to another thus affecting the new population it has entered. |
Emigration | To migrate from one or natural habitat to another. |
Exponential growth | When the resources availability is unlimited in the habitat, the population of an organism living in the habitat grows in an exponential or geometric fashion. (increases) |
Logistic growth | Occurs when the growth rate decreases as the population reaches carrying capacity. |
Carrying capacity | Maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain indefinitely, given the food, habitat, water, and other necessities available in the environment. |
