Homeostasis | maintenance of a stable level of internal conditions even though enviromental conditions are constantly changing |
Metabolism | sum of all chemical reactions that take in and transform energy and materials from the environment |

Natural Selection | organisms with certain favorable traits are better able to survive and reproduce successfully |
Adaptations | traits that improve an individual's ability to survive and reproduce |
Scientific Method | an organized approach to learn how the natural world works |
Observation | act of perceiving a natural occurrence that poses a question |
Hypothesis | a proposed explanation for the way a particular aspect of the natural world functions |
Prediction | statement that forecasts what would happen in a test situation should the hypothesis be true |
Experiment | used to test a hypothesis and its predictions |
Control Group | a normal standard to compar against the experimental group |
Experimental Group | group being tested |
Independent Variable | a manipulated variable |
Dependent Variable | responds to independent variable |
Theory | a set of related hypothesis confirmed many times and explains a great amount of data |
Peer Review | experts anonymously review and critique a research paper |
