Term | Definition |
Chemotropism (aka chemotaxis) | The tendency of an organism or a part of an organism to grow toward or away from a chemical stimulus. |
Feedback Loop | The return of information about a system or process that may effect a change in the system or process; the information that is returned. |
Geotropism/Gravitropism | the growth of an organism with respect to the force of gravity. The upward growth of plant shoots is an instance of negative geotropism ; the downward growth of roots is positive geotropism . |
Phototropism (aka phototaxis) | a plant growth movement that occurs in response to the direction of a source of light. |
Physiology | a branch of biology that deals with the functions and activities of life or of living matter (as organs, tissues, or cells) |
Response | An action or change in behavior that occurs in reaction to a stimulus. |
Sense Organ | An organ that receives stimuli and gives rise to the senses such as sight, smell, hearing, and pain. |
Stimulus | Anything that causes a reaction or change in an organism or any part of an organism. |
Thigmotropism | a plant's response to touch. |
