Term | Definition |
Population Size | The number of organisms of one species that live together. Ex: 3 Chickens! |
Population Density | The number of organisms of one species in a given area. Ex: 11 Chickens/Square Meter! |
Behavior | The way an organism acts toward its environment. It behaves in certain ways to get the basic needs of life. 3 Types Include: *Independent Behavior-Doesn't affect others. *Cooperation Behavior-Can help others. *Competition Behavior-Can hurt others. |
Competition | The contest among organisms to obtain the resources they need to survive and reproduce. |
Territory | The area that an animal defends from other members of the same species. |
Territorial Imperative | The behavior that occurs to defend an animal’s territory. |
Cooperation | Behavior by members of a population or community that helps each other. |
Social Hierarchy | Establishes an order within a population so that animals cooperate more and compete less within their population. |
