Consumer | Animals that cannot make their own food. |
Herbivore | Animals that eat only plants |
Carnivores | Animals that eat other animals |
Omnivores | Animals that eat both plants and other animals |
Decomposer | Organisms that break down plants and animals and animal waste. This helps plants get the nutrients they need. |
Food Chain | The path of energy from the sun to a plant to an animal to another animal |
Food Web | All of the overlapping food chains |
Humus | Decaying material in the soil which is makes it rich in nutrients. |
Loam | Topsoil rich in nutrients |
Inherited traits | Genes passed down from parents to their offspring ex: eye color |
Instinctive Behavior | Behaviors inherited from parents. ex: breathing |
Learned Behavior | Behaviors that are taught to an animal. ex:Dog catching a ball |
