claim | An assertion, usually supported by evidence. |
initial | Occurring at the beginning. |
evidence | Information taken from data that supports a claim. |
cells | Basic living units of all organisms. |
inference | A logical conclusion based on observations. |
spherical | Having the shape of a round ball. |
vial | A small bottle containing specimens or liquids. |
pipet | Holds and transfers small amounts of liquids. |
Erlenmeyer flask | Flask with a flat base, a cone-shaped body, and a cylindrical neck, named after Emil Erlenmeyer. |
milliliters | Common unit for measuring the volume of a liquid in science. |
graduated cylinder | Gradations (little marks) Measures volume of a liquid (Exact Measurement). |
growth | An increase in the number of living materials (cells) and the formation of new structures. |
living | Part of the world around us that is made up of cells, can reproduce, use energy, respond to stimulus, grow, eliminate wastes, exchange gases and needs water. |
nonliving | Part of the world around us that is and NEVER was alive. |
collaboration | Actively working, thinking, and sharing together to achieve a solution. |
chemical reaction | A process in which one or more substances are changed into others. |
dormant | A period of time when something living is inactive until the correct environment "awakens" them. |
waft | A lab safety procedure where you use your hand in an upward motion to gently move the air towards your nose. |
capsule | A membranous or gel-like sac surrounding an object or living thing. |
organism | Any living thing. |
dead | A living thing that is no longer alive. |
gas exchage | The movement of gases into and out of an organism by many possible methods. |
energy | Ability to do work which is fueled by nutrition. |
reproduction | Formation of new cells or a new individual |
environment | All external conditions and factors, living and nonliving (chemicals and energy), that affect an organism or other specified system during its lifetime. |
