Term | Definition |
Control | Part of the experiment where the independent variable is not included |
Control Group | The group in experiments that involves organisms that experiences constant variables |
Dependent Variable | Observed variable that changes in response to the independent variable |
Experiment | A scientific approach to testing a hypothesis |
Experimental Group | Group of subjects that are exposed to the variable in a control experiment |
Hypothesis | An educated guess about a problem |
Independent Variable | -manipulated in an experiment - presence determines the change in the dependent variable |
Procedure | Series of steps taken to carry out an experiment |
Reliability | yielding the same or compatible results in different experimental trials |
Sample Size | -number of units in a population to be studied - should be big enough to have a high likelihood of detecting a true difference between 2 groups |
Scientific Method | a methodical approach to designing and conducting an experiment |
Theory | a hypothesis that has been tested several times and has data that supports it. Implies that the scientific community has confidence in interpretation of a particular phenomenon. |
Validity | correctly inferred or deducted from a premis |
