Xylem | vascular tissue that transports water and minerals through the plant that moves materials from the roots to the shafts found in all parts of vascular plants. |
Phloem | vascular tissue that transports food molecules to all parts of a plant found in all parts of vascular plants. |
Monocot | an angiosperm with parallel veins in the leaves, one cotyledon and bundles of vascular tissues. |
Dicots | an angiosperm with branding veins in the leaves, two cotyledons |
embryo | an organism at an early stage of development |
endocytosis | the process by which a cell membrane surrounds a particle in a vesicle to bring the particle into the cell |
photosynthesis | the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria uses sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food |
cellular respiration | the process by which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food |
fermentation | the breakdown of food without the use of oxygen |
ecology | the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organism to one another and to their physical surroundings |
estuary | an area where from water from rivers mixes with the salt water from the ocean |
neritic zone | the relatively shallow part of the ocean above the drop-off of the continental shelf |
cell membrane | a phospholipid layer that covers a cell's surface that acts as a barrier |
prokaryotes | an organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nucleus |
ribosomes | tiny, round organelles made of proteins and other minerals |
eukaryotes | an organism that does have a nucleus |
bacteria | small cells known that live everywhere and has DNA |
