Adaptations | Characteristics that allow organisms to live in their environments |
Natural Selection | Well adapted individuals will survive and reproduce better than poorly adapted individuals. |
Niche | The role or job an organism has in its habitat |
Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resources |
Symbiosis | A close relationship between 2 species, where at least 1 benefits |
Mutualism | Both species benefit |
Commensalism | One species benefits, nothing happens to the other species |
Parasitism | One organism (parasite) benefits by harming the other organism (host) |
Predation | When on organism kills another for food |
Predator | the hunter |
Prey | the food |
Limiting Factor | The factor that limits growth in an ecosystem (food, water, living space, mates) |
Carrying Capacity | the number of organisms an ecosystem can support |
