Term | Definition |
Surface Runoff | Precipitation that falls to the ground and drains across the surface and eventually finds its way to streams, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc. |
Groundwater | collected when precipitation falls and it is absorbed into the ground, collects in pores between the soil and weathered rock |
sinkhole | a natural depression in the Earth's surface caused by the absence of soil or rock and caused by water |
watershed | an area of land where all the water that is under it or drains off of it goes to the same place, such as a river, stream, creek, or even the ocean |
runoff | Water that flows over the ground |
percolation | The downward movement of water into the ground and below the surface |
Watershed boundaries | the highest points or ridges that surround a body of water; determined by elevation, or the height of the land |
outlet | The place where a body of water flows into another body of water |
