What are the steps in Mitosis? ( They have to be in order) | interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis |
What happens during interphase? | There are 46 chromosomes in each cell. The chromosomes copy and form "X" shapes so there are 96 individual chromosomes and 46 'X" shapes. |
What happens during prophase? | The cell begins to divide and centrioles appear and begin to move to the opposite ends of the cell. The nuclear membrane dissolves and chromosomes become X's |
What happens during metaphase? | The pairs of chromosomes line up in a single file line. |
What happens during anaphase? | The pairs of chromosomes are separates and begin to move to opposite ends of the cell. |
What happens during Telophase? | Two new nuclei form. chromosomes appear as thread rather than rods |
What happens during Cytokinesis? | Cell membrane moves inward to create 2 daughter cells each with its own nucleus with identical chromosomes. |
