Tides | Daily movements of ocean water that change the level of the ocean's surface. |
Gravity | The force of attraction between two objects. |
Lunar Eclipse | An event in which the Earth comes between the sun and the moon and the shadow of the Earth falls on the moon. |
Revolution | The motion of a body as it orbits another body in space; one complete trip along an orbit. |
Rotation | The spin of an object on its axis. |
Axis | Imaginary line through an object. The object rotates on the axis. |
Hemisphere | The half of the Earth (top or bottom) that the equator separates. |
Phases | The moon's different appearances to us on Earth; they are due to the moon's changing position in its orbit. |
Solar Eclipse | An event in which the moon comes between the Earth and the sun and the shadow of the moon falls on part of the Earth. |
Solstice | The point at which the sun is as far North or South of the equator as possible. |
Equinox | The point at which the sun is directly above the equator. |
Waning | Late phases of the moon when the sunlit fraction we see from Earth is getting SMALLER. |
Waxing | Early phases of the moon when the sunlit fractions we see from Earth is getting LARGER. |
