Term | Definition |
Air mass | A large body of air that has properties similar to the part of earth's surface over which it develops. |
Hurricane | A large,Swirling,low-pressure system that forms over warm atlantic ocean. |
Front | A boundary between two air masses of different density,moisture,or temperature. |
Blizzard | Winter storms that lasts at least three hours with temperatures of - 12 C or below,poor visibility, and winds of at least 51Km/h. |
Tornado | A violently rotating column of air in contact with the ground. |
Meteorologist | A person who studies the weather |
Isotherm | Line drawn on a weather map that connects points having equal temperatures |
Station Model | Indicates weather conditions at a specific location using a combination of symbols on a map |
Isobar | Lines drawn on a weather map that connest points having equal atmospheric pressure |
Cold front | the boundary of an advancing mass of cold air, in particular the trailing edge of the warm sector of a low-pressure system. |
Warm front | the boundary of an advancing mass of warm air, in particular the leading edge of the warm sector of a low-pressure system |
Occluded front | a composite front produced by occlusion |
Stationary front | boundary between two different air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other. |
