Term | Definition |
Mucus | Sticky substance that traps harmful particles that would otherwise be breathed into the lungs. |
Antibody | A blood protein produced in response to a counteracting antigen. Antibodies combine chemically with substances that the body recognizes as alien example bacteria viruses and foreign substances. |
Antibiotic | It's a type of medication that destroys or slow down the growth of bacteria. They don't kill viruses. |
White blood cells | A cell that destroys bacteria, viruses and other foreign objects. |
Vaccine | A weakened or dead form of a certain virus that is given to a human to prevent disease, infection. |
Phagocyte | A type of cell within the body capable of engulfing and absorbing bacteria and other small cells and particles. |
Pathogen | Anything that causes a disease . Example: Some bacteria bacteria, ALL viruses and some fungi. |
Immune response | The reaction of the cells and fluids of the body to the presence of a substance that is not recognized as a constituent of the body itself. |
Disease | Any condition that is harmful to or interferes with the health of an organism. |
Infection | The act of disease producing organisms, which invade the bod and interfere with the normal activity of cells. |
