canopy | the uppermost layer of a rainforest where tree branches meet. |

mulattoes | people whose ancestry is African and European. |
volcanoes | a break in the Earth's crust where magma and other material erupts from Earth's interior. |
rainforests | a type of thick green forest found in areas of heavy rainfall. |
deserts | a geographic region with too little rainfall to support much plant life. |
region | an area defined by one or more natural or cultural characteristics that set it apart from other areas. |
Volcanic islands | islands formed when an underwater volcano builds up enough lava and ash to rise above sea level. |
plateaus | a raised area of land, such as a hill or mountain, with a flat top |
basin | a bowl-shaped depression, or hollow, in Earth's surface. |
isthmus | a narrow strip of land that links two larger landmasses. |
landmasses | very large unbroken area of land |
climates | patterns of weather overe a long period of time |
temperate | moderate or mild, without extremes of hot or cold. |
arid | dry or lacking rainfall, also a climate that is dry all year long with little rain |
semiarid | dry with little rainfall |
tropical wet and dry | a climate or climate zone that is hot all year with rainy and dry seasons. |
ecosystem | a community of all living things in an area and the environment in which they live in |
cloud forest | high mountain forests where temperatures are cool and a fog or mist keeps the vegitation moist all the time |
hurricanes | a storm with violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the caribbean |
tropical wet | climates that are close to the equator, heavy rains, warm and ussually humid |
highlands | an area of high or mountainous land |
broadleaf evergreen forest | Most tropical jungles are comprised of broadleaf evergreen trees. This contrasts with the evergreen forests of cooler climates in which the trees bear needles. |
desert scrub | Deserts and xeric shrublands is a biome characterized by, relating to, or requiring only a small amount of moisture. |
