| prokaryote | made of prokaryotic cells, no nucleus, makes up bacteria |
| heterotroph | a living thing that eats other things to survive: think CONSUMER |
| autotroph | a living thing that makes its own food through photosynthesis: think PRODUCER |
| multicellular | made of more than one cell |
| unicellular | made of 1 cell |
| sexual reproduction | has 2 parents, offspring are a mix of both parents DNA |
| asexual reproduction | has 1 parent, offspring are clones of the parent |
| classification | to put in groups by similar characteristics |
| binomial nomenclature | 2 word scientific name, usually in Latin or Greek, the first word is GENUS (like a last name) the second word is SPECIES (like a first name) |
| the eight levels of classification | domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species |
| darn, killer pigeons come out, friendly grandmas suffer | a way to remember the eight levels of classification |
| Domain | the largest level of classification, there are three: eukaryia, bacteria and archea |
| Kingdom | there are 6 kingdoms of living things animal, plant, fungi, Protista, archeabacteria and eubacteria |
| Domain bacteria | has the kingdom eubacteria in it |
| Domain archea | has kingdom archeabacteria in it |
| Domain eukaryia | has the kingdoms, animal, plant, fungus, protist in it |
| Kingdom Animal | moves, multicellular, heterotroph, all can reproduce sexually, some can reproduce, asexually as well, has eukaryotic cells |
| Kingdom plant | reproduce both sexually and asexually, has eukaryotic cells, multicellular, does not move from place to place, autotroph |
| Kingdom fungus | heterotroph, eukaryotic cells, mostly multicellular (yeast is single celled)can reproduce both sexually and asexually, eukarytoic |
| Kingdom protist | single celled, eukaryotic - the junk drawer kingdom some autotrophs, some heterotrophs asexual reproduction |
| kingdom eubacteria | single celled, prokaryotic, some autotrophs, some heterotrophs, asexual reproduction called fission: common bacteria, the ones Lysol targets |
| Kingdom archeabacteria | prokaryotic, asexual reproduction called fission, some autotrophic, some heterotrophic, live in EXTREME places |
| abiotic | nonliving |
| biotic | living |
