Term | Definition |
Experiment | a test under controlled conditions that are made to demonstrate a known truth, examine the validity of a hypothesis, or determine the effect of something previously untried |
Independent Variable | the part of the experiment that is manipulated or changed by the scientist or person performing the experiment |
Dependent Variable | the part of the experiment that is affected by the independent variable |
Control | a part of the experiment that is not being tested and is used for comparison |
Hypothesis | a tentative explanation that can be tested by further investigation; suggested solution to a problem; an educated guess |
Procedure | a way of performing or affecting something; a series of steps taken to test the hypothesis |
Observe | to watch (touch, smell, taste, or listen) carefully, especially with attention to details or behavior, for the purpose of arriving at a judgment or uncovering information; to purposefully take notice of something |
Data | recorded observations and measurements; information derived from an experiment |
Analyze | to examine methodically by separating into parts and studying their interrelations |
Conclusion | a judgment made or an opinion formed after considering the relevant facts or evidence |
Trial | the number of times that you do the experiment |
