cytoplasm | Area between cell memberane and nucleus, all organelles located here. |
organelle | Found in cytoplasm, perform a specific function. |
nucleus | Contains the genetic information of the cell. |
prokaryote | Single celled organisms with NO nucleus or membrane-bound organelles and is smaller than a eukaryote |
eukaryote | Organism made up of cells that contain their DNA in a nucleus and have membrane-bound organelles, many are multicellular. |
cell theory | States that organisms are made up of one or more cells, cells are the basic unit of life, and that all cells come from other cells. |
mitosis | Process of cell division where an equal number of chromosomes are separated and the nucleus splits to form two identical nucli. |
chromosomes | Threadlike structure in the nucleus that carries DNA. |
mitochondria | Produce energy for the cell. Breaks down food molecules to release energy by cellular respiration. |
