Term | Definition |
Inflammation | One of the first responses of the immune system to infection. Caused by increased blood flow to the tissue. |
Antibody | Secreted by white blood cells and used by the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign objects. |
Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) | A molecule on the surface of cells that mediates the interaction of white blood cells. Plays a key role in mediating immunization. |
Leukocytes | Cells of the immune system involved in defending the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials. |
Natural Killer Cell | A type of cytotoxic white blood cell that plays a foundational role in the innate immune response. |
