Term | Definition |
Access Copyright | A canadian business, officially named the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency, which collects funds to distribute to the owners of intellectual material, for the reproduction of such works. |
Copyright | A legal concept which grants exclusive rights of original content, to the creator of such content. |
Intellectual Property | A legal concept which defines the original creations of one's mind to be subject to exclusive rights. |
Royalty | A payment made to the owner of a patent or copyright, for its use. |
Trade-Mark | A trademark is a distinct symbol or sign which identifies or separates a particular brand or product from others. |
Public Domain | Any works in which intellectual property rights are expired, and therefore the content is licensed for public use. |
Moral Rights | The rights for creators of copyrighted content, most directly related to attribution recognition or anonymity, and right to integrity of the content. |
Performance Rights | The right to perform music in public. Permission to do so must be obtained from the creator of the content. |
Plagiarism | Misrepresentation of another's intellectual property as one's own original creation. |
Fair Dealing | The right to limited use of copyrighted content for purposes of research, critique, review or news reporting. |
Patent | Exclusive rights which are granted to an inventor for an invention, which may be a process or a product. |
Blanket License | A license to use a collection of copyrighted content, most often music, in a setting where issuing individual licenses would be impractical. |
