Term | Definition |
Access Copyright | A copyright licensing company that provides the public with the formal legal copyright for their works. |
Copyright | The right to copy or reproduce your intellectual or physical property. |
Intellectual Property | Property that does not physically exits. For example your thoughts and ideas or lyrics to a song. |
Royalty | Set payments agreed upon for the ongoing use of someones works. Payments go to those who hold the copyright. |
Trade-Marks | The sign, symbol, motto, etc. that is used to mark products as the copyright of a person or company. |
Public Domain | Refers to products or works that belong to the general public and can be used/reproduced without permission or recognition. |
Moral Rights | The creator(s) of a works right to the integrity and association with their works. |
Performing Rights | The rights to perform a copyright holders work in public. most cases require royalty payments. |
Plagiarism | Using someone else's work as your own, or not crediting/referencing the creator of a work when used. |
Fair Dealing | Permits the non commercial copying of someones work for either research, private study, criticism, review or news reporting. |
Patent | a right, granted by the government, to exclude others from making, using, or selling someones invention in Canada |
Blanket Licnese | Allows for the use of someones work without a limit on its use. |
