Inhaled Short-Acting Beta2 Agonists (SABA) | Increased heart rate, anxiety, nausea, palpitations, tremors |
Anticholinergics | Dry mouth and throat, GI distress, headache, coughing, anxiety. Generally safe. |
Corticosteroids/ Oral steroids (concurrent with bronchodilators) | depression, euphoria, hypertension, hyperglycemia, peptic ulcer, Cushingoid syndrome, ^ susceptibility to infection |
Inhaled corticosteroids | Hoarseness, dry mouth, sore throat, candidiasis |
Long Acting Beta2 Agonists | tachycardia, muscle tremors, dysrhythmias, risk of severe or fatal exacerbation (paradoxical bronchoconstriction) |
Xanthines | tachycardia, nausea and vomiting, headache, CNS stimulation, insomnia, seizures, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia |
Mast Cell Stabelizers | Cough, irritation, few cases of bronchospasams and anaphylaxis |
Leukotriene Modifiers | Headache, cough, nasal congestion, GI upset. Generally well tolerated. Watch for liver dysfunction, hepatitis, warfrin therapy |
Lipoxygenase Inhibitor | Elevaton of liver enzymes has occurred. Can inhibit metabolism of warfarin and theophylline |
Immunomodulators | Pain, bruising, skin reactions -Anaphylaxis warning |
