control | A control in a science experiment is a group of subjects or objects that are not exposed to the variable. |
dependent variable | A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment. The dependent variable responds to the independent variable. |
experiment | An experiment is a methodical procedure carried out with the goal of verifying, falsifying, or establishing the validity of a hypothesis. |
experimental group | An experimental group in a scientific experiment is the group where the experimental procedures are performed. |
hypothesis | A hypothesis is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon. For a hypothesis to be a scientific hypothesis, the scientific method requires that one can test it. |
independent variable | An independent variable is the variable you have control over, what you can choose and manipulate. It is usually what you think will affect. |
procedure | Definition of procedure: A fixed, step-by-step sequence of activities or course of action (with definite start and end points) that must be followed in the same order. |
reliability | Reliability has to do with the quality of measurement. In its everyday sense, reliability is the "consistency" or "repeatability" of your measures. |
sample size | Sample size is the number of observations in a sample. |
scientific method | A method of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data are gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from these data, and the hypothesis is tested. all observable phenomena are compared to and verified by data obtained through controlled experi. |
theory | A scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. |
validity | Refers to the extent to which a concept, conclusion or measurement is well- founded. |
