What is the OCULAR LENS? | The top the microscope where you look through. Usually has a magnification of X10 or X15 |
What is the OBJECTIVE LENS? | The lenses that usually have a magnification of X4, X10, X40 and X100. |
What is the REVOLVING NOSEPIECE? | The part that holds 2 or more objective lenses and revolves to switch views easily. |
What is COARSE ADJUSTMENT KNOB? | The knob you use for adjusting clearness of the object your viewing. (only use when on low objective lens) |
What is FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB? | Another knob you use for adjusting clearness of the object your viewing. (Use when on medium or high objective lens) |
What is the STAGE? | The flat platform where you place the slides. |
What are STAGE CLIPS? | Clips that hold the slide in place. |
What is a LIGHT SOURCE? | A steady source of light to help illuminate the object your viewing. |
What is the TUBE? | Connects the eyepiece to the objective lens. |
What is the BASE? | The bottom of the microscope |
What is the ARM? | Supports the tube and connects it to the base. |
What is the DIAPHRAGM? | Under the stage, there is a disk like structure with a bunch of different size holes, each a different size. It changes the amount and intensity of the light hitting the object |
What are the 2 major rules that apply to using a microscope? | 1. When holding a microscope, use both hands. One holding the arm, one supporting the base. 2. Never use the coarse adjustment knob with any other lens but the low objective lens |
