Question | Answer |
The Law of Conservation of Mass | States that mass is neither created nor destroyed in any ordinary chemical reaction. |
Physical change | Physical changes are changes affecting the form of a chemical substance, but do not change the chemical composition of that substance. |
Chemical changes | Chemical changes occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance, called synthesis or, alternatively, decomposes into two or more different substances. |
Element | One of a class of substances that cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means. See also chart under periodic table. |
chemical formula | A chemical formula or molecular formula is a way of expressing information about the atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound. |
element (diatomic) molecule | Diatomic molecules are molecules composed only of two atoms, of either the same or different chemical elements. |
compound molecule | 2 types of molocules put togather to make a compound molecule. |
chemical equation | A chemical equation is the symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side.[ |
chemical reaction | A chemical reaction is a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another.[ |
Reactants | H2O(s) ® H2O(l) . . . melting |
products | Reactants→Products SnO2 + H2 → Sn + 2 H2O |
Coefficient | The number of molecules of reactants or products. 2 H2 + O2 > 2 H2O |
Subscript | Subscripts are numbers used to tell you how many atoms of an element are present in the equation. water H20 has 2 atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen • glucose C6H12O6 has 6 atoms of carbon, 12 of hydrogen, and 6 of oxygen |
