synapse | a region where nerve impulses are transmitted and received |
hypothalamus | a region of the brain, between the thalamus and the midbrain, that functions as the main control center for the autonomic nervous system |
dendrite | the branching process of a neuron that conducts impulses toward the cell |
tapetum | any of certain membranous layers or layered coverings, as in the choroid of the eyes of certain animals |
