Question | Answer |
Gross Anatomy | The study of the macroscopic structures of an organism. |
Microscopic Anatomy | The study of the microscopic structures of an organism. |
Physiology | The study of the functions of an organism and its parts. |
Histology | The study of tissues. |
Organ | A group of tissues specialized for a particular function. |
Homeostasis | A state of equilibrium in the body with respect to its functions, chemical levels, and tissues. |
Effector | A structure in the body that can change the value of a variable. |
Selective Permeability | The ability to let certain materials in or out while restricting others. |
Endocytosis | The process by which large molecules are taken into the cell. |
Exosytosis | Transportation of material from inside the cell to outside the cell. |
Integumentary System | Skin, hair, etc. |
Skeletal System | Bones, cartilage, etc. |
Muscle System | Muscles, tendons, etc. |
Nervous System | Brain, spinal cord, nerves, etc. |
Endocrine System | Pituitary gland, thyroid gland, etc. |
Circulatory System | Heart, veins, arteries, etc. |
Lymphatic System | Lymph nodes, lymph vessels, spleen, etc. |
Digestive System | Stomach, liver, intestines, etc. |
Respiratory System | Lungs, trachea, etc. |
Urinary System | Kidneys, bladder, etc. |
Reproductive System | Male - Testes, seminal vesicle, etc. Female - Ovaries, uterus, etc. |
4 basic tissues | Nervous tissue. Muscular tissue. Connective tissue. Epithelial tissue. |
Plasma Membrane | The boundary of the cell. It holds things together and it controls entry and exit of substances. |
Nucleous | Contains genetic material, which is also known as DNA |
Cytoplsam | |
Ribosomes | Synthesize proteins |
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum | A series of tubes which are used to transport inside of a cell, as well as the production of lipids and carbohydrates. |
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | Used for transportation as well, but it is rough in appearance because of the ribosomes on it. It is also used to synthesize proteins. |
Golgi Apparatus | They take various chemicals and package them for many purposed including secretion. |
Lysosome | It's main function is to breakdown lipids, proteins, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids. |
Mitochondria | The major site of ATP synthesis in the cell. |
Seven Levels of Organization | 1. Organism 2. Organ Systems 3. Organs 4. Tissues 5. Cells 6. Organelles 7. Molecules |
Stages of Mitosis | 1. Prophase (Early and late) 2. Metaphase 3. Anaphase 4. Telophase |
