Question
Answer
What does the cell theory state?   It states that the cell is the basic unit of life, All organisms are composed of one or more cells, and all cells come from other living cells.
🗑
Living things have five main characteristics, what are they?   Respond to their environment, need energy, Grow, Get rid of wastes and Reproduce.
🗑
Nucleus   The organelle that controls all the activities within the cell.
🗑
Vacuole   Temporary storage compartments in cells. Sometimes used to store wastes.
🗑
Mitochondria   The energy producers in the cell that carryout cellular respiration to produce energy for the cell.
🗑
Cytoplasm   A jelly-like substance within a cell, containing organelles, water and other life-supporting materials.
🗑
Endoplasmic Recticulum   A network of membrane covered channels that transport materials.
🗑
Chloroplasts   parts of plant cells that trap energy from the sun and change it into chemical energy that plants use.
🗑
Ribosomes   Cell parts that assemble proteins
🗑
Golgi Body   A structure in cells that sorts proteins and packs them into vesicles.
🗑
Cell Wall   A tough, rigid structure that surrounds and protects a plant cell and gives the cell its rectangular box-like shape.
🗑
Cell Membrane   A thin protective covering that separates interior of a cell from its surroundings; also controls the movement of particles into and out of the cell.
🗑
Cellular Respiration   A process in which the chemical energy taken in through food is changes into energy that cells use to carry out their activities.
🗑
Metabolism   The total of all chemical reactions that take place in the cells.
🗑
Viruses   Tiny non-living particles capable of reproducing only when they are inside a host cell; They have no nucleus or organelles and are usually disease causing.
🗑
What are the two groups of cells?   Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
🗑
Celluar Respiration   The process that produces energy for the cell.
🗑
Prokaryotic Cells   A type of cell whose organelles are not surrounded by membranes.
🗑
Eukaryotic Cells   A type of cell whose organelles are surrounded by membranes.
🗑
Bacteria   Any of various groups of single-celled micro-organisms, some of which can cause disease.
🗑
Vesicles   Membrane - wrapped structures that carry proteins, nutrients, and water into, out of and around the inside of a cell.
🗑
Organelle   A cell part in which functions are carried out to ensure the cell's survival.
🗑
Selectively Permeable membrane   A membrane that allows some materials to pass through it but keep other materials out.
🗑
The word "microbe" comes from a Greek word meaning   Small Life
🗑
Stimulus   Anything that causes a living thing to respond
🗑
what two things are in plant cells that are not in animal cells.   Chloroplasts, and Cell Wall
🗑
Host   Organism that a parasite or virus lives on or in.
🗑
Lysosome   A cell structure containing digestive chemicals that function to break down food particles, cell wastes and worn- out cell parts.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
