| Respiration | Cells break down sugars and release the energy

| Stage one | In cytoplasm molecules of glucose are broken down into smaller molecules

| Stage two | in the mitochondria, the smaller molecules use oxygen to further break down the molecules which release energy

| Respiration formula | Sugar + Oxygen -----> Light energy = Carbon Dioxide + water

| Fermentation | when the body can't supply the cells oxygen anymore, this supplies the cells without sing oxygen
