What does "mothering the mother" entail?   Provide physical & psychosocial care for new mom during early period after birth. RN should meet physicla needs, listento mom's concerns & provide teaching. When mom's needs are met, she can meet the infant's needs more easily.

New parents may not recognize signals from infant who has had enough stimulation & needs to rest. What should the RN teach parents to recognize?   Signs of overstimulation include looking away, splaying fingers, arching back & fussiness. These are clues that infant needs ome quiet time.
