Describe the stage of exhaustion   the STAGE OF EXHAUSTION occurs when all energy is expended. it is common to become ill/die in this phase.

What occurs physiologically during the stress response?   An acute stress response is characterized by an increase in SNS activity. There is an Increased HR/BP/Resp/muscle tension/brain activity. there is a decrease in skin temperature

What are the 2 categories of coping strategies?   emotion-focused coping and problem-focused coping.

what is emotion-focused coping? when is it helpful? what are some examples?   Emotion-focused coping is managing emotions that ocfur during stressful events. This is helpful when the problem is unchangeable and uncontrollable. An example of an emotion-focused coping strategy would be getting a massage or going for a run.

what is problem focused coping? when is it helpful? what are some examples?   Problem-focused coping attempts to find solutions to resolve the problem causing the stress. it is helpful when the problem can be changed or controlled. an example of this would be to get a tutor after an undesirable test score.

what are the physiologic effects of cortisol?   Cortisol increases BG, potentiates catecholamine action on blood vessels, and it inhibits the inflammatory response.
