Describe and compare magnification and resolution.   Magnification is the act of making something appear bigger resolution is the quality of that image. The both have to do with the enhancement and enlargement of an image.

What is the five types of microscopes?   Compound light, electron, scanning electron, transmission electron, and scanning tunneling microscopes.

Describe a compound light microscope.   A compound light microscope can magnify up to 2000x. A light goes through two glass slides. It has low magnification but can be used for living things.

What is an electron microscope?   They are very accurate and can magnify up to 200,000x. However, it uses a vacuum so living cells can not be viewed.

What is an Transmittion Electron Microscope?   It works by directing electron beams at a thin slice of specimine stained with metal ions. The heavily stained areas absorb the electrons creating a image with very fine detain of the inside.

What is a scanning electron microscope?   Electron beams are aimed at a specimine coated with a layer of metal ions. The electrons bounce of certain areas creating a explicit 3D image.

What is a scanning tunnelling microscope?   Can view as little as the fine detail of an atom. Needle like probes measure the voltage cause by electrons on a specimen.

Why is the size of a cell important?   It has a higher surface area to volume ration making it more efficient. All organisms no matter how big have the same basic size of cells.

3 cell theories.   All organisms have at least one cell. Cells are the basic structure and function of all organisms. All cells are made from existing cells.

what are prokaryotic cells.   prokaryotic cells are the oldest kind of cell. the have no nucleus or internal compartments to carry out functions. they only have a very small amount of DNA in them. The are more commonly known as single cell organisms or bacteria.

what are eularyotic cells.   The have a nucleus that houses the majority of the DNA in a cell. They have many internal compartment with individual purposes.

Describe the role of the mitochondria in the eukaryotic cells.   This is where the chemical reactions that produce ATP happens. It produces the majority of the energy needed for the cell.
