Compound light Microscope   -uses light to magnify -magnifies up to 2000x (ours 500x) -use 1 eye to see, sees in 2D - The object you look at must be thin enough to let light through

Transmission Electron Microscope TEM   -uses electrons to magnify -magnifies up to 1,000,000x -only makes 2D images -object must be thin

Stereoscopic Microscope   -uses light to magnify -ours magnify up to around 50x -you use two eyes to see, sees in 3D -the object doesn't need to be thin

Scanning Electron Microscope SEM   -uses electrons to magnify -magnifies up to around 200,00x -makes 3D images -object can be thick
