Antigen   Is a protein, toxin, bacterium, or other substance that stimulates an immune response. EXAMPLES of antigens include microorganisms(such as bacteria,fungi,parasites,and viruses) and chemicals.

Antibody   Is a type of protein found in blood or other bodily fluids. The body's immune system produces antibodies when it detects harmful substances called antigens. In blood typing antibodies are called aggutinins.

Genotype   Is the genetic constitution of a cell, an individual. Ex: the specific allele makeup of the individual.

Phenotype   The observable physical or biochemical characteristics of an organism, as determined by both genetic makeup and environmental influences.

Allele   One member of a pair or series of genes that occupy a specific position on a specific chromosome.

Chromosomes   A thread-like linear strand of DNA and associated proteins in the nucleus of Eukaryotic cells that carries the genes and functions in the transmission of hereditary information.

Eukaryotic Cell   Has a nucleus, which contains the cell's chromosomes. Plants, animals, and fungi have Eukaryotic cells.
