classification | The act of grouping things by using a set of rules
🗑
kingdom | the largest group into which living things can be classified
🗑
moneran | one cell; no nucleus; some make their own food; others feed on other living things
🗑
protist | one cell (with nucleus); make their own food or live on other living things
🗑
fungi | most are many-celled; they have nuclei; look like plants but cannot make their own food (absorb food from other living or non-living things)
🗑
genus | second smallest classification group
🗑
species | the smallest classification group
🗑
How do scientists name animals? | With the labels of the two smallest classification groups (genus & species)
🗑
Why do scientists organize info. about living things? | Scientisits need to be able to find things easily
🗑
List the 5 kingdoms of living things: | 1. Animals 2. Plants 3. Fungi 4. Protists 5. Monerans
🗑
Give an example of an animal | monkey, bird, frog, fish, spider, dog, horse
🗑
Give an example of a plant | grass, tree, flower, fern, moss
🗑
Give an example of a fungi | mushrooms, yeasts, molds
🗑
Give an example of a protist | Algae, amoebas, diatoms, paramecia
🗑
Give an example of a moneran | bacteria
🗑
Characteristics of Animals | many-celled; feed on other living things
🗑
Characteristics of Plants | many-celled; make their own food
🗑
Characteristics of Fungi | most many-celled; absorb food from other living things of dead things (logs)
🗑
Characteristics of Protists | most one-celled; make their own food -or- feed on other living things
🗑
Characteristics of Monerans | one-celled; no cell nucleus; some make their own food; others feed on other living things
🗑
If a scientist finds a living thing that does not fit into any of the 5 kingdoms, what would they need to do? | Make a new kingdom!
🗑
What kingdom contains one-celled living things without nuclei? | Monerans
🗑
What is the scientific name for a grizzly bear cub? | Ursus (genus) arctos (species)
🗑
What is the scientific name for a house cat? | Felis (genus) domesticus (species)
🗑
Why do scientists form smaller groups of living things? | To be more specific. The most specific is the species which only has one living things in it.
