What is a taper tap   This is tapered over the first 8 to 10 threads allowing it to enter the hole and gradually cut the full depth.

What is a Plug tap   This has only a short taper, one or two threads. It is used for finishing the thread at the bottom of a deep or blind hole.

What is a stock and die. Name two parts and their uses   These are used to cut external threads on cylindrical material. (Metal Bars). The Die is the element that does the cutting of the threads and the Stock is what holds the die.

Which tool is used to cut what type of thread   Tap and Tap Wrench = Internal Threads. Stock and Die = External Threads.

What is coarse thread an its application   Coarse thread has a stronger thread. It is better for structural builds that don’t experience any movement or vibration.

What is fine thread and its application   Fine threads are used in moving parts as they are less likely to come apart/vibrate loose because of the extra surface contact.
