What is the best way to find the age of layers of rock?   Look at the fossils found in the layers.

In a model with 7 rock layers, what layer would be the oldest?   The layer on the bottom.

In a model with 7 rock layers, what layer would be the youngest?   The layer on the top.

How do you know if a layer of rock is younger?   It will be the layer laid down last, which is the top layer.

How do you know if a layer of rock is older?   It will be the layer laid down first, which is the bottom layer.

What most likely cause a break in rock layers?   An earthquake.

What would cause a layer of rock to be missing?   Erosion

If 2 rock layers in different parts of the world have the same type of fossil in them, what can you infer about the rock layers?   They are probably the same age and probably had the same climate.

If you find an aquatic fossil in an area that has no water what can you infer about what that area was like in the past?   It was probably once covered in water.

If you find a terrestrial fossil in an area that is covered by water what can you infer about what that area was like in the past?   The area was probably dry land and not covered in water at one time.
