Overprodduction | Specieces produces more offspring than can survive
🗑
Variation | Differences between individuals of the same species
🗑
Adaptation | A trait that is favourable to an organisms survival and reproduction
🗑
Fitness | how good a particular genotype is at leaving offspring in the next generation relative to how good other genotypes are at it
🗑
DNA | A large biological molecule composed of subunits known as nucleotides strung together in long chains. Changes in DNA result in mutations, which may be beneficial, neutral, or deleterious to the organism.
🗑
Species | A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding
🗑
Allele | Each of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome.
🗑
Chromosome | A double stranded DNA molecule that contains a series of specific genes along its length. In most sexually reproducing organisms, chromosomes occur in pairs, with one member of the pair being inherited from each parent.
🗑
Evolution | Evolution consists of changes in the heritable traits of a population of organisms as successive generations replace one another. It is populations of organisms that evolve, not individual organisms.
🗑
Population | A group of organisms of the same species that are in close enough proximity to allow them to interbreed.
🗑
Speciation | The evolutionary processes through which new species arise from existing species.
