Match the phase with a description.

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.

Term
Definition
Interphase - Before S Phase   *DNA is long, thin, thread-like chromatin. *One pair of centrioles/centrosome.
🗑
Interphase - After S Phase   *DNA has duplicated forming sister chromatids joined at the centrosome. *Centriole pair/centrosome has duplicated.
🗑
Mitosis - Prophase   *DNA begins to thicken and condense. *Centriole pairs/centrosomes begin to migrate to opposite poles with spindle fibers forming between them. *Nuclear membrane and nucleolus beginning to dissolve.
🗑
Mitosis - Prometaphase   *Centriole pairs/centrosome further moved towards opposite poles. *Nuclear membrane further dissolves and nucleolus is gone. *Spindle fibers attach to chromosomes and begin to move towards equator.
🗑
Mitosis - Metaphase   *Chromosomes aligned along the equator. *Spindle fibers/mitotic spindle fully formed.
🗑
Mitosis - Anaphase   *Spindle fibers shorten and pull apart sister chromatids and drag them to opposite poles. *The cell elongates. *Separated sister chromatids are now considered chromosomes.
🗑
Mitosis - Telophase   *Nuclear membrane begins to form around the two sets of chromosomes. *Spindle fibers disassemble. *Cleavage furrow (animal cells) or cell plate (plant cells) form to separate the two daughter cells. This signals the beginning of cytokinesis.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
