Why do we have seasons? | Seasons are the result of the Earth's tilted axis and the rotation around the sun. The Earth's distance from the sun is always the same.

Rotation | Movement of Earth on it's axis. It causes day and night and takes Earth about 24 hours to rotate once.

Revolution | Movement of Earth around the sun. One revolution of the Earth around the sun takes one year.

What causes areas of cold and warmth on Earth? | Because the middle of the Earth (by the equator) gets the most direct sunlight(heat).

When do we have summer in Northern Hemisphere? | When the sun tilts toward the Sun, we get direct sunlight. The Southern hemisphere is experiencing winter.

How do we get Winter in the Northern Hemisphere? | That happens when our Northern hemisphere tilts away from
the sun. The Southern hemisphere is experiencing summer.

The Winter solstice | is the shortest day of the year. It occurs on about December 21 & marks the beginning of winter.

The Summer Solstice | is the longest day of the year. It occurs on about June 21 and marks the beginning of summer.

Equinoxes | When the noon sun is directly overhead at the equator.

Vernal Equinox | occurs about March 21 & marks the beginning of spring.

Autumnal Equinox | occurs about September 21 & marks the beginning of fall.

What degree is the Earth tilted at? | The Earth’s axis is TILTED 23.5 degrees

Calendar | a system of organizing time that defines the beginning , length, and divisions of a year.

Solstice | either of the two days of a year on which the sun reaches its greatest distance north or south of the equator.

Equinox | When the sun is farthest north or south of the equator.

Why is it generally warmer near the equator than it is near the poles? | Near the equator, sunlight hits Earth's surface directly from almost overhead. Near the poles, sunlight is indirect and arrives at a steep angle. As a result, it is warmer near the equator and colder near the poles.

The shortest of the year in the Northern Hemisphere occurs on December 21, Why does the coldest day of the year occur in February ? | It takes time for the Earth to cool from the warmer months.

The longest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere occurs on June 21, Why does the warmest day of the year occur in August? | It takes time for the Earth to warm from the cooler months.

What causes Earth to have days and nights? | The movement/spinning of Earth on its axis.
