Ocular lens   also known as the eyepiece; the lens at the top that you look through; typically 10X or 15X power

Body tube   Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses

Arm   Supports the tube and connects it to the base; used along with the base to carry the microscope

Base   The bottom of the microscope; used for support  
🗑
Illuminator   also known as the light source; can be a mirror or plug-in light source; provides light to see the specimen

Stage   The flat platform where you place your slides  
🗑
Stage clips   Holds the slide in place on the stage  
🗑
Revolving nosepiece   Also known as the turret; holds two or more objective lenses and can be rotated to easily change power

Objective lenses   shortest lens is the lowest power; longest lens has the greatest power; these lenses are multiplied with the ocular lens to get a total magnification (scanning lens - 4X, Low Power - 10X, High Power - 40X)

Diaphragm   also knows as the iris; found under the stage and contains various sized holes to control the amount of light on the specimen

Coarse adjustment   Use to focus the microscope; always used first and should start at the lowest position without touching the slide

Fine adjustment   Lets you fine-tune the focus
